“It Was An Important Win For Us” – Alyssa Healy After UP Warriorz End Winning Streak Of Mumbai Indians Women In WPL 2023

The Alyssa Healy-led UP Warriorz defeated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians Women by 5 wickets in the 15th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday, Match 18.

UP Warriorz won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The decision proved beneficial for the side as the bowlers did a fantastic job in the match and restricted the strong MI-W batting unit to 127.

Sophie Ecclestone bagged a three-wicket haul while Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up two wickets each. From Mumbai Indians Women, the top-3 performers in the batting department were Hayley Matthews (35), Issy Wong (32) and Harmanpreet Kaur (25).

Chasing the target, the UP Warriorz openers failed to get going. However, Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath batted very well to take their side closer to the target. The match went till the very last over and Sophie Ecclestone alongside Deepti Sharma steered UP to victory to end MI-W’s 5-match winning streak.

During the post-match presentation, UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy lauded her teammates for getting the job done.

“It got close in the end but full credit to our girls for hanging in there and for getting the job done. It was an important win for us to just get some momentum,” Alyssa Healy said.

“You got to find a way to win sometimes and find momentum. From that perspective, super happy. Hopefully, we can take that confidence into the game on Monday. I don’t know how much it was. It did do a little bit early but it got easier to bat as it got drier. It was not as important as people might make it out to be,” Alyssa Healy added.

Alyssa Healy further lauded the UP Warriorz spinners and said that she is proud of them.

“Really proud of our spinners. For Parshavi to come in and bowl four overs, it was outstanding. If the wickets keep deteriorating, I am really liking the chances of our spinners’ group,” Alyssa Healy further said.
