IPL 2023: “If He Doesn’t Play Those Games It Will Be Good”

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri suggested that the team management should plan with franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to keep their best players in good shape ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final. India will take on Australia in the WTC final, which is scheduled to be played at the Oval in London, starting on June 7.

Ravi Shastri made this statement in the background of India’s being plagued by injuries in recent times. The cash-rich league will conclude on May 28, just a few days before the WTC final. The India National Cricket Team qualified for the second consecutive WTC final after defeating Australia 2-1 in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at home.

The Volume Of Cricket Has Increased – Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri believes that the Indian board should talk to the IPL franchises about giving the players a much-needed break during the IPL, as it would be beneficial for the Men in Blue in the upcoming WTC final.

“Even during the IPL the board has to tell the franchise, listen we need him, India needs him, so for India’s sake, if he doesn’t play those games it will be good,” Shastri told The Indian Express on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha.

Ravi Shastri believes that players need more rest than in the past, given the jam-packed schedule of modern-day cricket. “The volume of cricket has increased. Rest period is getting decreased, this is where establishment and players have to sit across the table. They need to be told that you need that much break and give them so much game to play,” Shastri said.

India cricketers Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer are undergoing rehabilitation for their respective injuries. The biggest challenge is for the Rohit Sharma-led team to keep players fit before the WTC final in England, which is just a week after the IPL.
