The veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised the young spinner Todd Murphy for his brilliant performance in the recently concluded four-match Test series between Australia and India. The Rohit Sharma-led team retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) for the fourth consecutive time after beating the visitors 2-1 at home.
Todd Murphy made a sensational debut against India in the first Test of the four-match series, registering bowling figures of 7/124 in India’s first innings in Nagpur. The 22-year-old became the youngest Australian player to pick up a maiden five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket. Murphy was the fourth-highest leading wicket-taker in the series, picking 14 wickets from four Tests.

Todd Murphy Had A Sensational Debut Series – Ravichandran Ashwin
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin said that Todd Murphy is 10 times better than Nathan Lyon’s first visit to India in the 2012-13 BGT series. Ashwin said that Murphy bowled dry spells from around the wicket to create pressure on batters.
“Nathan Lyon did pick 20 wickets in the series. However, the pressure was built from the other spinners too. Todd Murphy had a sensational debut series. This was his first tour to India. I remember many spinners’ first tour to India,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“Nathan Lyon came here first in 2013. He went to Sri Lanka before that. Murphy came here 50 times better than how Lyon came here on his first tour to India. I am not saying he is a better bowler in terms of quality, skill or performance. I am talking about his capacity and composure to be able to bowl around the stumps, over the stumps,” he added.
Nathan Lyon played against India for the first time in 2013. The spinner took 15 wickets in the series with an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 50.87, including a five-wicket haul. He picked up a 7-wicket haul against India in Delhi, registering a figure of 7/94.
