IND vs AUS: “The Way He Batted Today, He Repaid The Team Management For The Faith Shown In Him”

India got off to a good start in the three-match series by defeating Australia in the first match. The Hardik Pandya-led team beat the visitors by five wickets in the series opener at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, March 17. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar praised KL Rahul for his brilliant performance and said he stayed till the end to complete the chase.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian bowlers bundled out the opposition for 188 runs, with Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami picking up three wickets each. KL Rahul scored a patient knock to help India chase down the target after the early wickets. The right-handed batter hit an unbeaten 75 off 91 balls, including seven boundaries and a six.

His Body Language Didn’t Use To Be Like Virat Kohli – Sunil Gavaskar

During a post-match discussion on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that KL Rahul possesses both technique and temperament. The former Indian opener credited the team management for backing Rahul, and the wicketkeeper batter returned the favour.

“We said earlier as well that he has the technique and temperament but sometimes you need luck as well. Just like Virat Kohli, he was getting out to his first mistake, but his body language didn’t use to be like Virat Kohli’s,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

“Virat Kohli used to get out but still his body language was different, he was confident. You could not have said the same thing about Rahul. But the way he batted today, he repaid the team management for the faith shown in him. He stayed till the end, it was not that he could do anything as he had scored a fifty,” Gavaskar added.

The home team will take on the visitors in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 19. The Men in Blue will be hoping to seal the series by winning the second match.
