India will take on Australia in the second ODI at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 19. The men in blue beat Australia by 5 wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that Australia will bounce back in the series with their improved performance.
The visitors were bowled out for just 188 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series in Mumbai. The Australian middle-order batters struggled against Indian bowlers, failing to capitalise on the top order’s strong start. Mitchell Marsh, who opened the innings in the absence of David Warner, played an attacking innings and scored 81 runs off 65 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes.

Team Needs Runs From The Top-Order Batters – Wasim Jaffer
Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said that he is confident that Australia will play with their improved performance in the second match of the series against India.
“No doubt that a team needs runs from the top-order batters in one-day cricket and I’m sure they will deliver an improved performance in the second game,” said Jaffer.

Ishan Kishan Will Pave The Way For Him – Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer said that Rohit Sharma should replace Ishan Kishan in the playing eleven in the second ODI. The former India opener feels that the team management should consider picking either Washington Sundar or Axar Patel for Shardul Thakur, as they provide batting stability in the lower order.
“I think probably Ishan Kishan because it will be a like-for-like swap. Rohit Sharma will open the innings and Kishan will pave the way for him,” Jaffer added.
“I also think Shardul Thakur bowled only two overs in the match and the pitch assisted fast bowlers heavily. If they don’t use Shardul Thakur a lot, it makes sense to play either Washington Sundar or Axar Patel as they also provide the batting stability,” said Jaffer.
Rohit was ruled out of the series opener due to family commitments and is available for the remaining two matches. David Warner, who missed the first ODI because he wasn’t fully recovered, will return to the playing XI for the second ODI.
