Delhi Capitals on Thursday announced David Warner as their captain for the 2023 Indian Premier League. Axar Patel has been named as the Aussie’s deputy for the season.
Warner will take over for Rishabh Pant, who will be out for the season while he recovers from a serious vehicle accident in December last year.

The Delhi Capitals make the announcement on March 16 early, the day before the first One-Day International between India and Australia. Warner, who ranks third all-time in runs scored in the Indian Premier League, led SunRisers Hyderabad to their first title in 2016. The left-hander has a remarkable strike rate of 140.58 and a total of 5668 runs from 155 games.
Axar Patel, an all-around player for India, has been appointed to vice-captaincy, marking his first position of authority in the Indian Premier League. Axar has been in outstanding form in the previous few years in both the IPL and international cricket, and it is anticipated that he will soon establish himself as one of the major members of the DC lineup.

David Warner started his IPL campaign in 2009 with the Delhi franchise (formerly the Delhi Daredevils), however, he later shifted to Sunrisers Hyderabad. He led the SRH to the franchise’s lone championship victory in the competition back in 2016. David Warner was fired from the franchise and eventually made a comeback to Delhi following a dispute with the team management in the 2021 edition.

I can’t wait to meet them all, and get cracking!” David Warner said in a statement released by the DC following the announcement.
Warner had a fantastic strike rate of 150.62 while scoring 432 runs for the Capitals in 12 games in the previous campaign. In the competition, he smashed five half-centuries.
